What are email marketing best practice?

There are so many things you need to consider when doing email marketing. The most important is the message you are trying to get across to the subscriber base. It is a sales message, feel good message or an alert. The purpose of the message changes the way consumers interact with it.
I think email marketing is a real science and so few people (companies) get it right. There are so many tricks and rigorous testing that needs to be followed to ensure you are sending something everyone can read or will be interested in interacting with.
The big retailers around the world do a great job of continuously testing and optimising their email marketing to get the results they need.
